History of Hood
The Mighty Hood commissioned in 1920 had eight 15" guns which could fire 1700lbs shells over 15 miles. Hood a battlecruiser had weak armor protection especially on deck 25 which was only 73 mm thick. This made Hood vulnerable to long range plunging fire which fell directly down on her deck. In Hoods final famous combat mission Hood along side the new battleship the Prince of Wales were about to take on the most powerful battleship on earth... Battleship Bismarck. At this point of the war Britain was the only player still in the fight against the 3rd Reich and convoys were the only thing keeping Britain in the fight. If the Bismarck could cut into the Atlantic she could plunge down into the convoys, a knife into Britain's supply arterie. To understand what's about to happen you have to understand the condition of the royal navy in 1941. Interwar treaties had limited the size and armament of new vessels, the treaties limit was 35,000 tons. Bismarck weighed an astonishing 50,000 tons! See Hitler lied about the weight of the vessel so he wouldn't come under scrutiny. Meanwhile the British still abiding by the treaty was modernizing old ships instead of building new ones, and the new battleships they did build had ten 14" guns in two quadruple turrets and one two gun turret. Sea trials revealed that her revolutionary quadruple gun turrets were prone to breakdown under strain. So even though Prince of Wales was brand new she was under powered at launch; however the Prince of Wales was more technologically advanced than the Hood particularly because she had modern range finders and crucially both the Hood and Prince of Wales were fast and speed was what the royal navy needed in and interception force. So that's the situation the capable but vulnerable Hood and untested Prince of wales are about to take on the most powerful warships on earth.

Battle of the Denmark Strait
Commander of the Hood Admiral Lancelot Holland hoped to beat the Germans to the mouth of the Denmark strait and cross their T. Bringing all his guns to bear on the enemies while the German ships battleship Bismarck and German Heavy cruiser Prinz Eugen could only fire their forward guns. But the British loose contact with the enemies overnight, morning finds them out of position. The Germans find that they completely by accident have the upper hand, they find that they are crossing the T of Hood and Prince of Wales. Holland knows that he needs to stop Bismarck he orders hard to Starboard and full speed ahead. Holland knows that the Hood will vulnerable to plunging fire unless he gets within 9 miles so the British race in hoping to get close enough to force the German gunners to fire at a flat trajectory. The shells will hopefully hit Hoods 12" hull armor rather than the thin deck.

05:37 hours the Denmark strait 14 miles from the Germans Hood shoots first, however Holland directs his first salvo at the Prinz Eugen see Earlier Bismarck fired at the heavy cruiser HMS Norfolk and knocked out her radar doing so. The Commander of Bismarck Admiral Lutjens orders the Prinz Eugen to take the lead. Bismarck and Prinz Eugen have similar silhouettes and so Hood fires on Eugen, but the gunnery officers on Prince of Wales working with modern optics realizes this and tries to communicate to the Hood but its two late smoke covers the Hood. Prince of Wales aims at the Bismarck and fires the gunners look at there watches 30 seconds later huge columns of water leap up behind the German ships the salvos are long. British armor piercing shells plunge into the sea but Bismarck still refuses to return fire. On the Hood Holland realizes he shot at the wrong ship and gives the order to re-target the Bismarck. The guns have reloaded and he orders to fire. 24 seconds after he lunches the salvos land short. Holland has bracketed the Bismarck his next salvo should be good! On Bismarck Lutjens still gives no orders to fire the ships Captain, Captain Lindaman steps in and says: "I will not have my ship shot out from under my ass!" Bismarck opens fire the German gunners watch their timers 24 seconds pass and then a powerful explosion rattles the Hood an Armour piercing shell from Eugen hits Hood in her 4" anti aircraft compartment. The deck catches fire Holland remains calm and at 9.2 miles orders a hard turn to Port to bring her full broadside to bear. Her guns are almost ready to fire if she completes the turn he'll have the advantage 2 battleships against 1 without radar. Holland almost has finished the turn when flashes of light run across Bismarck, See even though Both Hood and Bismarck have eight 15"guns Bismarck can fire 3 shells a minute to Hoods 2. Holland waits he hears through the voice pipe: "Guns Reloaded sir" Excellent Holland thinks "Open--BANG!!!" a shell from the Bismarck hits at the base of the mainmast and goes deep into the ship. There appears to be no damage... 5 seconds later a geyser of flame erupts from the ship her magazine detonates. The Hood is in 2 separate pieces the bow lifts into the air as her midsection sinks, the crew doesn't know where or how bad they've been hit a sailor looks back and see's Holland going down with his ship. He steps off the Hood and into the icy seas of the Denmark strait. Nothing remains of the Royal navies Biggest pride and most famous warship, Nothing remains of the Mighty Hood. 1 of the 3 survivors of 1400 men looks back at the sinking wreck but just before slipping under B turret Fires a final defiant salvo before she slips into darkness. In 10 minutes the Hood is gone but Prince of Wales is there still firing but her guns aren't holding up to the strain and every couple of salvos another one goes out of action in number 3 turret men are loading shells when they hear over the P.A :"The Hood has-has" *click men pause for a moment as they wonder what happened to the Hood? A few minutes later the voice comes back on the P.A: The Captain told me to tell you that the Hood's Blown up. His voice cracking. The men in Y turret stop as they think about The Hood. After a while the men are told that they have hit Bismarck. "Conflagrations guys" the P.A says "Keep it up and we'll avenge the Ho-CRASH! the P.A is silent. A shell hit the bridge without exploding, Captain John Leach gets to his feet his entire bridge crew is Dead except for himself and 2 others. Leach knows he's out gunned with only 5 guns out of 10 still working. He orders Hard to port and to create smoke to cover their retreat. Still busy in Turret 3 a shell punches though the armor and lands in the Magazine next to a sailors foot still live. If it goes off the ship will have a similar fate to that of Hood, they're told to hold onto it but they're not waiting they pitch it over the side of the ship after carrying it up 7 flights of stairs, a live 1700lbs shell up 7 flights while in battle. The crews back to work with only 4 working guns and to make it worse the turret won't turn they're out of commission. Prince of Wales escapes and the news of Hoods sinking spreads rapidly in response Churchill gave a 3 word order to echo throughout history: "Sink the Bismarck!"

I know that was long but I hope you at least learnt something please upvote i appreciate it.

Actually it was B turret but yes that is correct. But I still like Hood better because of her face. If you look at the bridge you can see a face and once I saw that I just fell in love with it. @squideater56

@FlyinRyan7 oh and one thing about the HMS hood, when it sank, before it disappeared, turret three of the HMS hood fired one last salvo at the Bismarck before slipping into the ice cold water.

also during its final battle, the Bismarck was pounded so hard and so many fires And explosions that the bow of the ship actually started glowing bright red with heat, it got so hot that the moment the heated metal touched the water it evaporated the water around it instantly. XD

I did research on the Bismarck after listening to a song about it, the Bismarck broke records in its time as the largest, fastest and most powerful ship on the sea. the Bismarck was built early in the war and blew all ship limiting treaties out of the water. the length of the Bismarck was a astonishing 1000 ft. long battleship. the ships top speed was 45 mph, that's fast for a ship that weighed 50,000 tons. it was also very maneuverable as it was able to avoid detection from brits for 7 days. the max range of the main battery cannons was a whopping 22 miles. the visual distance for the horizon is only 3 miles! also the crew count was 2200 members, only 580 of which were saved when she went down.
