Redsand Republic Paxtum Ulca Mk.I

Unique in it's class, the Paxtum Ulca was an all metal, parasol winged, carrier borne heavy fighter, that saw service in the Redsand Republican Navy, during the Second Arashi War. Initially designed in a committee specification which had necessitated the adoption of a specific naval "bomber hunter", the Ulca was developed with armament and rate of climb in mind. Boasting the extremely powerful for the time, Magnar AeroCo. Shark 1400 hp engine, with an equally powerful armament of 10 wing mounted machine guns and armor plating in all direction. Though not optimally, 500 lb of ordinance could be mounted on the crafts underbelly. Reaching speeds of ~260 mph at sea level, the Ulca was a heavy beast of a plane, and though relatively maneuverable as a heavy fighter, would see a harsh baptism of fire in the early years of the war, with many pilots, who had received little to no fighting experience in any such plane of the type, engaging in low speed turnfights with the all too new and maneuverable Nishimura Type 10s, fielded by the Arashi Kingdom. Eventually, the high altitude performance of the Ulca, and heavy armament provided, would be put to use in high speed boom and zoom engagements, as well as in weave style formations, much more suited to the Ulca's performance.

Though dated by the end of the war, the Ulca would achieve a modest kill-death ratio of 6 to 1, against all Arashi aircraft types, with many becoming aces in the type (primarily against bomber, liaison, and scout aircraft). The Ulca would also become distinguished in the service of escort carriers roaming around the Tenavega Sea, with it's short takeoff run and bombing capabilities being put to use in the merchant raiding role. All operating squadrons of the Ulca, were still taking good care of their aircraft, in the post-war years, only being fully withdrawn from service in 2237.
