Quick overview
A seaplane is a fixed-wing aircraft that can take off and land on water. They are categorized into two types: flying boats and floatplanes. Flying boats have boat-like hulls and are generally larger, while floatplanes have separate pontoons or floats. Glenn H. Curtiss built the first practical seaplanes in the US in 1911 and 1912. Seaplanes were among the world's largest and fastest aircraft by the late 1930s.
