The Bomb Challenge
The little guy in the images to the left here is Yellow Sun.
Yellow Sun is neither yellow, or a celestial object, no no no. Yellow Sun is a British - designed 7250-ish lb air dropped nuclear device, with a happy go lucky name, a "can do" attitude, and a fairly large (for it's time) thermonuclear warhead.
"Whats this got to do with me?" You say? Well - I'm glad you asked...
The Challenge
**Deliver Yellow Sun from the standard spawn point at Wright Airport to the target.
The Target is anywhere within the boundary of Yeager Airport. You dont need to be precise - the 1000Kt warhead will do the heavy lifting - but I do ask that you deliver the bomb ( in its entirety, as is) to Yeager.
So, in summarry -
The device you build shall be capable of delivering the Yellow Sun from the vanilla Wright spawn point to anywhere within the boundary of Yeager Airport.
Your entry can be anything. A bomber aircraft, an ICBM, a railgun, a gigantic Howitzer, a trebuchet, whatever. But the Yellow Sun must start at Wright, and end up at Yeager.
It also MUST detonate If it doesnt explode then it is not fun.
You can deliver Yellow Sun any way you see fit, within the following guidelines;
The Rules
- No infinite fuel. We are going for a modicum om realism here.
- Only the stock Overload and Finetuner mods allowed. No other mods.
- Weight and drag must be reasonable for the chosen delivery system. No weightless, dragless tomfoolery, thanks.
- Original designs only. No replicas, although homages will be acceptable.
- The payload must remain unaltered. The Yellow Sun I provide shall be grabbed and attached by the pylon provided. the pylon itself can be edited and altered, but no part of the Yello sun assembly can be changed in any way, including, but not limited to changes in drag, weight, colour, explosion scale, etc.
- Part count . no less than 150 no more than 600. I am on an old iPhone here...
- Useability - I am doing the shooting / aiming / dropping / launching / flying. Make the thing easy to use, and for goodness sake, write instructions. Failing to do so will see me either try and fail to understand how your contraption works, or miss the target completely. Neither of which is good.
- The Yellow Sun MUST detonate. No boom = no points. Or, at leaset, less points. ¨
- As many entries as you lot see fit. If you want ten bites at the cherry, then who am I to argue... Its your time...
- Must be a successor to this post. How else can I keep track of the millions of entries Im (un)likely to get??
The Scoring
- I will be carrying out the delivery. So every entry gets an equally innept pilot.
- Each entry shall be tested three times for fairness.
- I will score based on three criteria:
- Looks - Maximum 10 points for how aesthetically pleaseing I find the entry.
- Ergonomics - Maximum 10 points for ergonimic concerns; Does it do the thing I ask? Is it fit for purpose? How hard it is to launch / fly / shoot / aim? Are the instructions easy to follow?
- Accuracy - The score from the Looks and Ergonomics, X 1.5 if I Was able to hit the target at all within my three tries.
- Innovation - Here is the Wildcard. If I think that the entrant has really thought "outside the box" or gone above and beyond, then I will award an additional 5 points. Only three entries will recieive
Some points regarding scoring;
Looks - Here, I'm looking for wow factor. If its an ICBM, does it look like an ICBM? Does it have a carrier vehicle? is it mobile? Launch gantry? If its a bomber, does it have custom landing gear? a cockpit? How about custom afterburner?
Ergo - Here I'm thinking about ease of use. I mean, it can still be complicated, but if there are instructions on how to do the complicated buts then it goes a long way. Is the design robust? Does parts of it break during operation?
Accuracy - This is simple. Can I make the thing hit the target? So - if its a bomber, can I fly over Yeager, release the bomb, and make it hit? If its artillery, can I aim the thing to make my shot land?
Innovation - I want out of the box type entries. An ICBM is cool. But a seaborne ICBM? Cooler. Artillery is nice. But artillery with a drone spotter for targeting? Cooler. Think about how you solve the targeting issue - you only get one Yellow Sun, so missing aint an option...
Deadline - January 20th
The Prize?
1st place - 25 upvotes and my undying admiration.
2nd place - 15 upvotes and a warm, glowing feeling that yo did well.
3rd place - 5 upvotes and a slight feeling of unease...
So, thats it - I look forward to having at least some entries (I hope)?
Any questions? please fire away!
Pip pip!

@WarLightning Thats the spirit!
@GhostHTX Eye eye captain!
@WarLightning its a big boy, no doubt. But dont lose heart! Think outside the box! Think big! Think small! Think pink! Or blue! Green? You choose! You have until 20.01.26, so take your time…
I have become death. . . I have become le bombe
@nwa @GhostHTX Im quit, all of my fighters are simply can't do the job. Not even the jug, none of them can simply carry thay bomb. Maybe i'll rejoin oneday but with a fully fictional design (that purely adapted for carrying that damn bomb)
NOTE! RULES CLARIFICATION!!
The bomb itself is around 15 parts. So I will not crucify anyone for going slightly over the max part count.
@Warsforyou Good stuff! Looking forward to your entry!
@nwa This competition requires smart and dumb in equal measures.
Thanks very much for the spotlight, btw!
@WarLightning Full on replicas are not allowed. You’ll just be copying a solution that someone else came up with. I could end up with a competition full of V bombers… Which isn’t a bad thing per se, but against the spirit of the competition.
That being said, if someone were to make a cursed Victor, or a chibi Vulcan then I would be happy… so long as it can still drop the nuke.
I would also love to see how a P-47 could be made to deliver this, though. I would judge that any P-47 modified to deliver a 7250lb strategic nuke isn’t really a replica any more…
@WarLightning Duh, P-47? You dumb or smth?
@nwa I'll submit my modified P-47
Before that, @GhostHTX is fictional variant/modification of a real aircraft allowed? Or must be fully fictional?
Going to test my freighters here,
@WarLightning
Already am very invested in this challenge, going to try and build a very detailed aircraft (remaining in the part limit) Excited to see who makes top three
*obligatory "Now i have become death, the destroyer of worlds" quote
Genial
@TateNT34
First, thanks for the interest and the upvote! Second - answers!
1- As a general rule you cant recolour the bomb itself. It is green with a black head and orange stripes. But! If its a hassle to not recolour, of if the colouring makes it awesome, then I might even give added bonus points…
2- you can add things (like parachutes, detatchers etc) yeah. As it is, it is set to drop on an AG. AG3, if I dont remember wrong. But if you want to use a detatcher to make it drop on firing weapons or whatever its totally fine.
Rename it? Rename what?
As a rule Im not going to disqualify folks unless the rule breaking is flagrant, egregious, reprehensible, or just generally really bad.
Please just build something, and if its inkeeping with the spirit of the competition then youre all good.
@GhostHTX I am just that kind
A couple questions: 1, can I recolor it? Ik it says not to in the thing but I don’t want a glowing purple bomb. 2, can I rename it? Also, can I add a parachute?
P.S. make sure to add a detacher to the bomb so the whole thing drops and not just the stock boom 50
This now such a fun looking challenge?? Omg?
@tetozz a Spotlight?!? Youre too kind.
kewl, everyone gotta see this
