Boeing B-14 ''Heckler'' American Flying Wing

27.9k SteadfastContracting  7.8 years ago

- HISTORY/BACKSTORY
The Boeing B-14 "Heckler" was the American answer to the Horten Ho 229 light bomber. It could fly at advanced speeds for its time and could carry quite the payload. Its flaws were that it lacked the fuel to complete some missions of longer distances, and the other flaw was that it was slightly unstable when pitching and rolling at the same time.

2. Act. 1 and a combination of the VTOL and TRIM bars control the turret.

4. Act. 7 and VTOL bar up drops the missile rack.

- Notes
I had fun building this but it was a pain in some areas. For example, the control areas are only moved by rotators. Also, don't make the turret fire without elevating it a bit when it is pointing anywhere near the inlet looking things. Anyways, have fun and don't crash!

@SteadfastContracting If you get a chance check out my "Flying Nuclear Wing". I went asymmetrical on the wings. Didn't want it to be to easy! ;-)

That's a good idea. I've never tried it but still sounds good.

@SteadfastContracting Agreed. I also like making multiple pieced wings and elevators and adjusting the flat bottom\symetric\semi symmetric settings to fine tune balance.

Yeah, it sounds like you are on the right track. It helps to put the stabilizers as far back as possible. It gets tricky with the COM & COL but you almost always want the COL behind the COM, if I'm not mistaken.

@SteadfastContracting I am always open to advice. Seems like it has to be a specific shape if I am not mistaken. Kinda shaped like a boomerang? Also seems like vertical stabilizers are usually attached on the outer part of the wings. I lost alot of my stuff I didn't upload when my last tablet went kablewy! So I have to start from scratch. I have a few ideas that I think will help, such as using unbendable wings. Regular wings were giving me some attaching issues. Also, I have a little better grasp of how to set up the Cot and Cog. I am going to start work one now. I need a new project anyways.

Yeah, most plane have a really hard time without a rear vertical stabilizer. If you need help, I may be able to give it.

@SteadfastContracting I kinda like the flying wing concept. I keep making flying wings but nothing worth showing off. Most wouldn't even fly. So I was checking yours out. She flies great BTW. Seems like your tail elevator may play a role in keeping it from"rolling" a$$ over applecart.
