April 12th, 1961, soviet union, the day the first man went to orbit around our beautiful but divided planet (cold war). Onboard the Vostok 1, is cosmonaut Yuri Alekseyevich Gagarin, which is also a soviet air force pilot. he completed a 108 minute orbit around our vast world, and proved that, with enough equipment and training, mankind may journey through the stars, our large, vast universe. this was considered as a major breakthrough, and a victory for soviet spaceflight.
