MFN-7 "Skyblaze"

285 JCF6  2.6 years ago

History
The MFN-7 was designed for the U.S. Navy and USAF to operate from ground bases on small islands with short airfields. It was meant to protect those airfields from amphibious and aerial assault. It was mainly used during the Vietnam War to provide air cover from bases in Thailand and Vietnam itself. It was also used in the Second Korean War of 1974 to destroy North Korean MiG-23's and Il-28's. They were retired from combat roles in 1978, but are still used by Air National Guard units.

Design
The MFN-7 is a semi-flying wing, retaining a vertical stabilizer. Its pitch control is inverted because they are at the rear of the airplane. The rear landing gear are tilted to help with rough landings.

Armament
1 MFM-2 20mm Minigun
Suspended armament including AAMs, AGMs, Bombs, Rockets, and gun pods. The suspended armament is stored on the spar that holds the intakes, around the midsection of the aircraft.

Notes
Based on the Douglas F4D Skyray, and takes influence from the Vought F7U Cutlass. The History section is my own lore. Enjoy!
