The YTech Rocket Propelled Flechette Shell is an experimental, extreme anti-personnel hybrid grenade launcher. The launcher itself is an optimized design, with plenty of rail space for attachments. The truly unique, and most controversial, part of the RPFS is its ordnance.

The projectile locks onto a target via heat-seaking sensors embedded in the nose. It is launched similarly to a grenade launcher, but once in flight, uses microbursts of propellent stored in the motor body to accelerate, while the limited onboard computer controls the fins to keep the projectile on target. Once the rocket is 25 meters away from the locked target, the explosive detonates, dispersing 2,000 3 millimeter flechette projectiles in a conical spread. The explosion and flechette spread are specifically designed to injure and permanently incapacitate a group of enemies, but not to mortally wound.

The RPFS is many times more accurate than an RPG-7, and the effective range extents to about 900 meters. However, the embedded sensor array and microprocessors vastly increase the cost per projectile, currently at $8,000. Another downside is that the explosive is significantly weaker than that of an RPG-7, limiting its anti-armor use to lightly-armored troop transports. These characteristics, combined with the fact that some governments might consider the effects of the weapon to be inhumane, have led the RPFS to see very limited production, and no current purchasers.
