History
In 1961, the government issued a tender for a fighter jet capable of all-speed maneuverability. The Cohen Aviation Design Bureau joined the competition with its latest variable-sweep wing design, internally designated SWTF-1 (Switchable-Wing Test Fighter 1). The design distinguished itself during the trials and successfully won the development contract. Renamed KF-961, the project entered full-scale development. The prototype made its maiden flight in 1967. By 1969, it had passed acceptance trials and entered mass production. The aircraft officially entered service in 1970 under the designation KF-35.
