Designed in 1944, the HG.I(2) combined elements of the HG.I airframe and HG.II concept. First taking flight in August of 1945, the HG.I(2) quickly replaced existing Sturmvogels on the field. By the spring of 1946, over 1,750 HG.I(2)s had been built, with 1,700 of them being stationed on the frontlines. The airfract served until 1952, when the more advanced HG.III (and its variants) finally entered service. The aircraft pictured here was flown by Oberst (Group Captain) Klaus Adalrik of JG.7. He flew this type from 1946 to 1952, when he was given an HG.III.
