Background

The Burton-Class landing craft, vehicle, personnel (LCVP) is a cheap landing craft used by the Federation for amphibious landings.

Most are constructed from fiberglass or plywood to with earlier models constructed from steel. These boats are built using assembly line methods with sections built in many places and assembled at a shipyard costing about $620,000 each. This shallow-draft vessel could ferry about 195 soldiers (220 if on deck) to shore at 17 knots. Or carry a Warrior APC (50 Soldiers) or 2x Wiesel. Passengers would exit by charging down the boat's lowered bow ramp.

The vessel is armor plated against rounds up to 30mm from the frontal arc, around the bridge and engines. Shallow draft of around 5 to 6ft allows it to get close to shore. The bottom of the boat is designed to dig through the sand while protecting the propeller and allowing a quick reverse after unloading forces. The vessels are lightly armed with a few smoke launchers to mask infrared signatures, chaff and flare launchers and a weapons emplacement on the front. Usually the weapons mounted are a 12.7mm Machine gun but 20mm guns have been mounted.
