VenAvia Airways – Airbus A350-1000 History
Introduction and Acquisition:
VenAvia Airways, aiming to modernize its long-haul fleet, placed an order for the Airbus A350-1000 in 2017, seeking to replace aging Boeing 777-200ERs and expand its ultra-long-range capabilities. The A350-1000 was chosen for its efficiency, passenger comfort, and range, allowing VenAvia to operate nonstop routes to North America, Asia, and the Middle East.
First Delivery:
The first A350-1000, registration P3501LR, was delivered in late 2019. It featured VenAvia’s updated livery with a teal tail, a styled new modern livery, and a modernized fuselage font. The aircraft entered service on the Erebus–New York JFK route, marking VenAvia’s first use of the A350-1000 on a premium international route.
Operational Use:
The A350-1000 quickly became VenAvia’s flagship for ultra-long-haul flights, offering up to 366 seats in a three-class layout (Business, Premium Economy, Economy).
It replaced older 777s on long-haul routes to Los Angeles, Tokyo, Dubai, and London, while also enabling new non-stop services to Sydney.
Its fuel efficiency and quiet engines helped VenAvia reduce operational costs while improving passenger comfort.
Fleet Expansion:
By 2024, VenAvia had eight A350-1000s, all deployed on international long-haul routes. The airline began using the A350-1000 for charter flights and special government or VIP missions, given its range and reliability.
Notable Incidents:
VenAvia’s A350-1000 fleet has remained remarkably safe, with no major accidents reported.
Minor operational incidents include a cabin pressurization alert on flight PVA 2023 in 2021, which required an unscheduled diversion to a nearby airport. The incident was resolved safely without injuries.
Upgrades and Modifications:
In 2022, VenAvia upgraded its A350-1000 fleet with new inflight entertainment systems and enhanced Wi-Fi, aligning with its strategy to boost the long-haul passenger experience.
The airline also implemented sustainable fuel trials and tested biofuel blends on the aircraft to reduce its carbon footprint.
Current Status:
As of 2025, the A350-1000 serves as VenAvia’s primary long-haul workhorse, complementing the A330-900 fleet.
The airline has plans to expand the A350-1000 fleet to 12 aircraft by 2027 to meet growing international demand.
