Lore:
The GFA-5C Was meant to fill the technology gap in the Airforce. Originally, the "Advanced Multirole Jet Development" program was supposed to replace the GF-5A/B, but had suffered numerous delays. Because of this, the GFA-5C, a model that was supposed to be virtual only, was given a go for production.
Before production happened, the GFA-5C was a development of the GF-5B with a redesigned wing and cockpit placement, but new materials gave engineers the means to give it weight reductions. They also made the canards bigger, giving it slightly better nose authority. Finally, the Engines. Inspired by the improved GF-2FB, the GFA-5C were given new engines with an afterburner toggle. The new engine consumes alot of fuel, which means more fuel had to be added.
Meanwhile, better missiles were developed, the M-20H was a variant special to the GF/A-5 series, with more range and a slightly longer activation time, allowing it to not explode on the plane. The M-9K, however, was a revolutionary variant which included thrust vectoring. This makes the M-9K very manueverable and, in some cases, even made it deadly for the launching plane.
The early GFA-5C Blocks were unfortunately equipped with poor Pylon detaching force. This was also an issue in the previous GF-5 variants, but the fix done for the GFA-5C was not enough. Some died due to the missiles hitting the launcher, especially for the M-9K, which was deadlier due to its manueveribility. This was fixed in later Blocks
