The A-4N Skyhawk, designated "Ayit" (Eagle) by the Israeli Air Force (IAF), was a customized variant of the Douglas A-4M, adapted specifically to meet Israel’s operational needs in the 1970s and 1980s. Combining American airframe reliability with Israeli avionics and weapon systems, the A-4N became a core component of Israel’s tactical air power.

Equipped with the Pratt & Whitney J52-P-408 turbojet engine, the A-4N reached speeds up to 673 mph (1,083 km/h) and could carry 9,900 lbs (4,490 kg) of ordnance over five hardpoints. Among its precision-guided munitions was the AGM-65B Maverick, a TV-guided missile ideal for anti-armor and pinpoint strike roles.

The Ayit served with distinction in several conflicts, including the Yom Kippur War (1973) and the 1982 Lebanon War, delivering close air support, interdiction, and strike missions with notable survivability and reliability.
