It has a gyroscope (ag8), but it isn't necessary. It can still perfectly take off, fly and land without it. It can both land and take off vertically, but landing it like a plane is much easier. While landing you can also move the VTOL slider up half the way to decrease forward speed (moving it more causes the blades to hit the wing).
