[SU1946] Me P.1102/5Z Remake (8th Air Group, ROCAF)

9,428 vcharng  4.3 years ago

SU1946 stands for Simple Universe 1946, it is a series of late-WWII (or prototypes) planes plus some fiction. Planes in this series would have significantly better performance than their historical counterpart, and would receive a "Z" in their names to distinguish them from other, more accurate replicas.

This is the remake of an older aircraft, with the following upgrades:
-Updated building techniques like custom wings, custom landing gears, cockpit etc.
-Utilized 1.9 mechanics such as cannon and "funky tree" function-based instrument panels, as well as IAS-driven swing-wing action.

Features:

Detailed instrument panel modeled after real world Me 262 panel
(top picture)Left section, top to bottom, left to right:
Airspeed (200km/h per notch), Artificial horizon w/ slip indicator, Vertical speed indicator (not very accurate due to the lack of differential function)
Altimeter, Compass, Flap position
Wing swinging master switch, Landing gear switch
Right section: Top three are engine RPM and the bottom is fuel gauge.

^Customized, double-stage wing landing gear that corrects its orientation according to the wing position

Other features:
-Working onboard warning systems, including stall warning buzzer (triggered when AoA > 10 and IAS <800 km/h), overspeed buzzer (IAS>1600 km/h), ground proximity warning (a red flag on top-right corner of altimeter) and fuel warning (a white flag inside the fuel gauge)
-Functional stick, pedal and other handles
-Very good combat performance and ordnance load, can in fact wipe out every unit in the vanilla map with only main guns. Can in theory wipe out every destructable object (i.e. including the wind farm) in the vanilla map if fully loaded with mod bombs.

History:
Most of the introduction of the aircraft can be found on the older version's page, but it comes down to this: during the Simple Universe version of Chinese Civil War, this was the main attacker aircraft imported from Germany to the Chinese Nationalists. Armed with two powerful MK112 55mm autocannons, it was the most powerful attacker in the theater. In order to facilitate cooperation with the US Navy, it was modified to have carrier operation ability.

About the 8th Air Group:

)
The 8th Air Group of the Republic of China Air Force was an air group that historically operated bombers during the early days of Chinese Civil War. This particular paint scheme was copied from a historical scheme used on PB4Y-2 Privateer bombers, as shown in the second picture above. Their insignia is a number "8" written on a symbol of plum blossom, which is the national flower of the ROC.

Activation groups:
AG1: Wing mechanism master switch (once activated the swing wing would automatically retract at 800km/h IAS. Turn off this on the ground to reduce parking space required.
AG2: Flap
AG3: Arresting hook
AG4: Nav Lights
AG7: Emergency discarding outboard pylons (to prevent a damaged pivot pylon from mis-aligning ordnances and possibly explode on aircraft.
VTOL: Air brake. only two would function when the main wing is retracted, all four will function when wing extended.

Operation note:
-Prone to stall at low speeds
-Not quite STOL-ish
-Discarding the pylons on the ground may destroy the aircraft
-Using the pylon detachment to release bombs can (it seems) trick the anti-missile (and bombs) laser.
-The aircraft does NOT stand evenly on the ground, one of the two wing gears will not touch the ground as a result of this unconventional landing gear design.
