Mendicant Bias

''And so here at the end of my life, I do once again betray a former master. The path ahead is fraught with peril. But I will do all I can to keep it stable - keep you safe. I'm not so foolish to think this will absolve me of my sins. One life hardly balances billions.'' - last known message of Mendicant Bias. Accessed via terminal

05-032 Mendicant Bias was the first Contender Class AI created by the Forerunners. Its purpose was to lead the Forerunner forces against the flood parasite. To help with its goal, Mendicant Bias spoke with a being called The Primordial to see if the flood had any weaknesses. However, the Primordial was a form of Flood Gravemind, and corrupted Mendicant Bias with the Logic Plague. In a state of Rampancy, Mendicant joined the flood against its creators, and took the fleets under its control with it. Mendicant Bias was eventually captured, put on trial, and willingly imprisoned under one of the deserts of The Ark. After a few thousand years, Mendicant Bias sent a fragment of itself to a keyship known as the Anodyne Spirit, which eventually became a major component of High Charity. Over 100,000 years after its capture, during the events of Halo 3, this fragment would rejoin with Mendicant's personality array on The Ark, where the ancilla would communicate with The Master Chief through the various terminals.
