Artemis Hybrid Fighter

Lore:

The Artemis is a Hybrid Fighter designed and produced by the Prime Earth Collective in the year 2254. Hybrid fighters are an uncommon sight in the galaxy on account of their unusual mechanics, Hybrids are meant to bridge the gap between Atmospheric Jet Fighters, and Space Faring Spacefighters.

Hybrids are capable of exiting and entering the atmosphere of a planet with minimal difficulty and are capable of maintaining a decent amount of combat capability in both environments. Hybrids unfortunately commonly suffer from an inability to excel in space or atmospheric combat due to the complex mechanisms the machines must accommodate, as such Hybrids are an unpopular option for civilians or military organizations.

The Artemis was designed by the Ministry of Military Engineering as a means of standardizing Prime Earth Military hardware and facilitating the mass production of a multirole capable attack craft. As such the Artemis was constructed as a multi-role capable hybrid fighter, allowing the Prime Earth Military to slowly phase out much of its specialized fighters. Because the majority of Prime Earth's military forces are composed of Clone Drones, the design of the Artemis reflects Prime Earth's doctrine, that being quantity over quality. As such the Artemis suffers from subpar maneuverability even in the vacuum of space, limited options for weaponry, and a non-existent ejection system for the Clone pilot. Should the Artemis suffer critical damage during an engagement it is unlikely that the pilot will survive.

The standard factory set Artemis is always equipped with 2 atmospheric hydrogen-fueled jet engines, 2 ion engines, energy shields, contact shields, an Anti Gravity Drive, and 2 modular weapon hardpoints. Outside of factory settings there exist multiple different configurations and loadouts for the Artemis as the hybrid fighter is a highly modular platform.

This variant of Artemis emphasizes atmospheric engagement with light space combat capabilities. For engaging targets in the atmosphere, it is equipped with 2 high-caliber machine guns, 4 fire-and-forget atmospheric missiles, and 4 semi-active radar atmospheric missiles. For engaging with targets in the vacuum of space, this Artemis is equipped with a single low-grade plasma cannon which offers subpar offensive capabilities against potentially more dangerous spacecraft.

Because of Prime Earth policies on the distribution of property within and outside of Earth, the Artemis remained a state-owned piece of technology until 2612 when a group of unknown hackers managed to leak the blueprints and technical papers of the craft into the public. This breach of security would force Prime Earth to completely redesign its hybrid fighter and reinforce its security.

With the blueprints and technical documents of the fighter leaked many private companies would take advantage of the situation and produce and sell their own variants of the Artemis to the civilian market. The Artemis has proven to be a popular choice amongst civilians and space pirates alike because of its cheapness, acceptable combat capabilities, and its highly modular design which has brought a litany of heavily customized Artemis into the galaxy.

Another fighter with a bunch of lore from yours truly! Flip the 3rd switch (Or press 1 on the keyboard) to switch between atmospheric combat mode and space combat mode, doing so will switch between the engines and change the loadout you have available for you.

As always, have fun flying! :)
