The T-64BV in Ukrainian service is an upgraded Soviet-era main battle tank that forms the backbone of Ukraine’s armored forces. It features a 125mm smoothbore gun with autoloader, improved composite and explosive reactive armor (ERA) on the turret and hull, and a modernized fire control system. Mobility comes from a 700–780 hp diesel engine, giving it decent speed and maneuverability for its weight. Ukrainian upgrades often include additional optics, communications gear, and battlefield electronics to improve situational awareness and survivability. Despite its age, the T-64BV remains a capable and cost-effective tank in Ukraine’s ongoing defense efforts.
