Description

Strategic bomber is a medium to long range plane penetrating deep down to the enemy’s territories focusing on taking down several important placements such as powerplant, factories and supply chain. B-85 is a long-range strategic bomber made by BlackGearCompany (BGC) in purpose to accommodate aerial bombardment needed for operations held by the operator of this aircraft. B-85 nicknamed Alastair, as it’s a Scottish name of Greek origin, meaning "man's defender" or “man’s protector.”

As a strategic bomber, B-85 was designed to be able at minimum reach of 10,000km of range and so because of that, B-85 had huge wingspan and 6 contra-rotating turboprops to accommodate such big airplane like B-85, making it able to reach 14,500km with cruise speed of 830km/h at 8000m of heights, while its service ceiling is 18,000m above the sea surface and max speed is around 1070km/h above 10,000m with few trades back or in certain conditions that support it.

Like do we know that B-85 is a strategic bomber and could reach such range at 14,500km indeed that B-85 would carry massive loads with examples of being able to carry 84 of 500lbs bomb inside internal bomb bay, 4 of 600kg of cruise missile and 2 of ALBM sitting comfortably on each wing. With total payload being carried is around 23,850kg. Since the maximum payload is around 28,000kg or more depends on the variants.

In conclusion that the meaning and the purpose of this aircraft is for strategic bombing, penetrating through inside the enemy territory and attacking the vital point such as factories, powerplant, logistic lines, military base and more. With it’s extensive offensive capability, the aircraft doesn’t need to go through inside the enemy territory and risking the crew and pilot inside of being attacked by enemy aircraft or from enemy air defense system, and by becoming missile truck, firing from the distance and saving time while saving life.

Lore

In early 1960, BlackGearCompany was invited by the USSR Defense Ministry to a military aviation show, where they marveled at the TU-95. The event was a display of power aimed at impressing representatives from various countries. From this event giving an idea to BlackGearCompany to made one for themselves. Immediately after that, they called NochMilitaryAviation (NMA) and Aerial Directive Nexus (ADN) to discussing and planning for further project. Shortly after the event, a country named Wzehkhastan expressed interest in acquiring a strategic bomber. They awarded a contract to BGC to develop the aircraft under the following specifications: a maximum weight of 150,000 pounds, a payload capacity of 30,000 pounds, a minimum speed of 400 mph, a minimum altitude of 10,000 meters, and a minimum range of 10,000 km.

At that time, BGC, NMA, and ADN were already discussing the development of a strategic bomber, so they agreed to accept the contract and produce what Wzehkhastan requested. They proceeded to design the airframe and choose the engines. Since their initial goal was to emulate the TU-95, they adopted a design style similar to it while incorporating their company’s own distinctive features.

By 1969, the first flight was announced. The process was relatively quick because NMA already had a basic airframe ready for use. Why they had ready to use airframe? Because years before that NMA been trying and testing few configurations and composition for upcoming project; while BGC selected the materials, and ADN handled the remaining tasks. However, the maiden flight of the XB-85Y ended in disaster during landing due to the failure of engine number 4 and the landing gear’s inability to support the aircraft’s weight, which exceeded its maximum performance. Tragically, all 12 crew members were lost.

Following this, the team completely redesigned and overhauled the aircraft to prevent a repeat of the accident. In 1972, the first test flight of the revised model was conducted successfully, with no injuries or significant damage, apart from an issue with the engine gearbox, which was resolved by replacing it with a different model.

By 1974, two units had been produced and were parked at NMA’s private airport near Nuremberg. Several months later, the two aircraft were flown to BGC’s safer private airport in Turkey. They remained there for several months for inspection, evaluation, and final adjustments before being scheduled for delivery to Wzehkhastan in December 1975.

Following this initial handover, attention quickly shifted to the larger production run. The next batch, consisting of a total of eight aircraft, was scheduled for phased delivery: the first units in 1977, additional aircraft in 1978, and the final delivery completed by 1980. This staggered timetable allowed BGC and NMA to incorporate feedback from the first deliveries while ensuring that Wzehkhastan’s air fleet expanded in an orderly and sustainable manner.

End of Phase I Report: Deliveries concluded on schedule, with additional units completed through 1980. Operational service records to be evaluated in the subsequent decade. File closed.

    Score 25
    Overall scoring: good
I could not sufficiently test this aircraft. Thus meaning this score is not 100% verified. I will not be taking self verification from you, the user unless it self verifiable. I did take your word on ceiling and range, cuz idc about that really. It seams plausible.
Over all not bad, just way to much performance cost

Lemme guess: the propeller tips go supersonic in cruise, the crew often suffer from hearing loss, and they can be heard from the ocean floor?
