The Yangtze Flying Phoenix
A Vision for the Future of China's Regional Jet
Backstory:
As COMAC's product line matures and its family design language becomes more unified, the ARJ‑21‑700 (now renamed the C909) has been envisioned to receive its first major upgrade. The C909‑700CJ “Yangtze Flying Phoenix” is the product of that vision: while retaining the proven aerodynamic layout, it incorporates a new power system and cockpit design to improve overall performance and passenger experience, while strengthening the visual family ties with later models such as the C919 and C929. Compared with the ARJ‑21‑700, the C909‑700CJ is equipped with two domestic Yangtze‑500A (CJ‑500A) turbofan engines. These engines offer improvements in thrust, fuel economy and reliability, and—free from dependence on Western technology—make the aircraft’s production, delivery and operation more independent and self‑reliant.
About This Aircraft:
This build is based on real ARJ‑21 / C909 drawings, but the engine nacelles are marked “CJ‑500A.” The original six‑piece windshield (reminiscent of the DC‑9 / Boeing 717) has been changed to the four‑piece, large‑area windshield design that runs through the C919 and C929 series. The nose contour has also been subtly refined. Besides providing a wider field of view, these changes enhance the visual identity of COMAC airliners through consistent family styling.
This is my first complete aircraft model to use the “Smooth Transition” feature after discovering that fuselage parts can be blended seamlessly, resulting in more fluid and natural connections between fuselage sections.

背景故事:
随着中国商用飞机有限责任公司(COMAC)产品线的成熟与家族化设计语言的统一,ARJ-21-700(现已更名为C909)也迎来了其首个重大升级设想。C909-700CJ “长江翔凤” 正是这一设想下的产物:在保留原有成熟气动布局的前提下,通过换装全新动力系统与驾驶舱设计,提升整体性能与乘客体验,并强化与C919、C929等后续机型的家族化视觉联系。对比ARJ-21-700,C909-700CJ换装两台国产长江-500A(CJ-500A) 涡扇发动机。该发动机在推力、燃油经济性与可靠性上均有提升,且摆脱了对西方技术的依赖,使得飞机生产、交付和运营更加独立自主。
关于本作品:
本作品基于真实的ARJ-21/C909图纸制作,但在发动机短舱上标注了“CJ-500A"字样,由原来类似DC-9/波音717的六块驾驶舱风挡改为与C919、C929一脉相承的四块大面积风挡玻璃设计,并对机头曲线进行了细微调整,除提供更广阔视野外,也通过家族化设计增强了中国商飞客机的视觉辨识度。
这是我在发现机身部件可开启 “平滑过渡”功能后的第一个使用该功能的完整飞机作品,使机身各段连接更为流畅自然。
