1990, China Airlines began to introduce Boeing 747-400 passenger aircraft in order to further expand its scale, and delivered a total of 19 aircraft, gradually replacing 747SP and 747-200
On November 4, 1993, a Boeing 747-400 passenger plane numbered B-165 flew the flight, carrying 274 passengers and 22 crew members including the pilot and co-pilot. The plane skidded off the end of the runway and plunged into the sea after landing, injuring 10 people on board.
2021/4/12 All  remaining 747-400 aircraft of China Airlines will be retired
