The aircraft has perfect all-weather combat capability, can use advanced medium-range air-to-air missiles to destroy enemy aircraft, mainly carry out air superiority combat missions, and develop air-to-ground combat modification.The Fmur15 fighter was developed by McDonald's (now Boeing / Boeing), developed from the Fmurx (Fighter-Experimental) program launched in 1962, won the bid by McDonald's (McDonnell Douglas) in 1969, made its first test flight in July 1972, and delivered the first production aircraft to the US Air Force in 1974.
