Type-A Ko Hyoteki Submarine

45.4k Sgtk  5.9 years ago

The Wiki

The Type A Ko-hyoteki class was a class of Japanese midget submarines (Ko-hyoteki) used during World War II. They had hull numbers but no names. For simplicity, they are most often referred to by the hull number of the mother submarine. This class was followed by: Type B, Type C, and Type D, the last one better known as Koryu.

The first two, No.1 and No.2, were used only in testing. They did not have conning towers, which were added to the later boats for stability underwater.

No.19 was launched by I-24 at Pearl Harbor. Most of the other fifty are unaccounted for, although three were captured in Sydney (Australia), and others in Guam, Guadalcanal, and Kiska Island, accounting for some of the other hull numbers.

Comparison between the sub washed ashore near Pearl Harbor and my rendition

Controls

-Roll/Pitch to Steer
-Throttle Forward (no Reverse)
-Ag1 Launch Torpedo 1
-Ag2 Launch Torpedo 2
-VTOL to Dive

She will top out around 25mph in water and has almost no forward momentum when submerged, so be sure when attacking to fire your torpedoes and dive until the coast is clear!!

As Always

Another fun little mini sub for my collection. I really enjoy doing these little guys as it makes for good practice with some of the smaller details. As always, please let me know if you have any suggestions for improvement or if there is a vehicle you would like to see recreated. Thank you so much for stopping by to look, and enjoy your cruise!!

    OH! i get it now
the cube has buoyancy, then, pistons push it upwards, making the super heavy hull submerge while making the submarine look it dived. thats what i understood, is it right?

@ShiroNeko I made the cube super small. It only has to fit inside the hull of your boat. I use xml to increase the mass of it. Probably 3 times the weight of the boat. You attach a piston to the top of the hull, and the block to the top of the piston. Xml the piston to stretch far enough for the boat to completely submerge. Then hide piston/ cube in the hull, with the cube resting at the waterline. Because of the blocks mass and its ability to float, vessel will be suspended in the water by the block. Also because it can float, the piston cant push it out of the water, so it puahes the rest of the boat down.

but how did you made em on small mass? thats one of my questions, and how did the pistons pushed em to the bottom? wont the piston submerge bc it cant float right?

@ShiroNeko small weighted blocks attached to pistons. The blocks float due to their large mass and the pistons push the rest of the vehicle down below the water. They are xml'd on the centerline of the sub. There's one on either side of the "conning tower" you can pull out to look at.

If you only want to sail and not submurge, then what will happen if you go near to USS Beast or USS Tiny 2 and torpedo it? :P

    The VTOL Engines...
The Nozzle and the Smaller Ports can work under water, just keep the VTOL Engines above water...
Scale the Engine to 0.001 and you good to go.. :D
