PROJECT: Orbitas

Auto Credit Based on FlyingThings's SSTO-Challenge

“From a descent into darkness, Light emerges.”

Basic flight:
Pitch and roll to move forwards and sideways.
Yaw for Yaw. Throttle for altitude.
[Additional Note]: There are two REFLEX missiles for self-defense. Use them like any missile, but they have a 180-degree lock-on angle, and they have an instant lock time.

Space flight:
Ag1 plus FireGuns to fire upward impulse engines.
Ag2 plus FireGuns to fire downward impulse engines.
Ag3 plus FireGuns to fire forward impulse engines.
Yaw for Yaw.
Pitch for thrusters (only good for precise movements. They are really just leftovers from the design process.)

Space tips:
Sometimes the bullet won’t collide in its desired location. This causes the plane to sometime randomly jolt. I call this a Random Impulse Distortion, or RID. When ascending or descending, try not to yaw too much. This will help you avoid RIDs. If a RID occurs, simply stop pressing FireGuns for a second, stop any yaw motion that may have occurred, and then continue to press FireGuns. This ship has a heavy gyro that will help a lot, but in rare occasions, it may fail. If the ship cannot recover, de-activate the gyro with AG8, then re-activate.

When ascending…
Max Speed (without RIDs): 12,000mph
Max Speed (With many, many RIDs): 30,000mph

When descending:
Max safe speed: 20,000mph
You can go faster, but you will have the risk of hitting the ground before you can slow down.

[Please Note] Forward impulse may not work when you are moving with an upward velocity of more than 20,000 mph.

For a decent amount of time, space travel was dead. A fundamental change in the universe occurred, rendering existing impulse-capable prototypes obsolete. As a result, humanity was grounded, and space exploration came to a halt. This change was reflected in the stock market. Investors began to doubt space travel companies, including the leader in the market, SPEcorp. For about a month, it was incapable of producing any spacecraft. Stock prices eventually dropped, and the company was forced to act.
SPEcorp’s response to this debacle took the form of a press conference hosted by its highly experimental PROJECT division, in which it unveiled PROJECT: Orbitas. The company presented a fully functional shuttle with impulse propulsion, as well as explained the fundamentals of why impulse engines had been failing for a span of a month. The press release indicates Random Impulse Distortions, or RIDs, as the leading culprit. Occurring at any given time, these distortions would cause misfiring of a spacecraft’s impulse engines, rendering it uncontrollable, or even causing critical damage to the ship. These distortions would occur randomly, but can be created, without fail, by changing the attitude of the spacecraft in relation to its ascent or descent vector. The company created a workaround for this issue. Orbitas was designed to strictly fly in a 2D VTOL configuration. SPEcorp’s PROJECT division also disclosed that it had not completely prevented RID encounters, but it had devised a powerful control gyro to accommodate any issues caused by a RID encounter. The resulting prototype met mass production lines three days after the press conference. Stocks soared for SPEcorp, and equipped with a patented anti-RID impulse configuration, the company led a new age in space travel.
As a spacecraft, PROJECT: Orbitas is a decent all-rounder. It can carry cargo with sufficient efficiency, and can do so with speeds comparable to SPEcorp’s early Warp prototypes. Long-range REFLEX missiles and basic countermeasures allow it to have some degree of self-defense, but the shuttle is far from a starfighter. While it has a sturdy design, it has no armor, and has only modest evasive capabilities. This does not, however, relate to the design goals of SPEcorp. Regarding its primary purpose – carrying people and supplies into space – Orbitas was a massive success.

@Genterprizes REFLEX missiles are modded air-to-air missiles that have a large lock angle, and an instant lock time.

I was wondering if I could possibly use your REFLEX missiles in my new plane. Is this possible? @spefyjerbf

@DarthAbhinav I just finished finals week, and will be out of town, so I will post my next large project in a week or two. However, I may post some builds that I made on my mobile to kill time.

@spefyjerbf Oh okay. Could this get fixed when you have some time, please?

@Kingstevenrules Hm, there is a chance that I didn't add lateral movement, then. I didn't focus too much on the vehicle's normal flight.

@spefyjerbf I guess I'm missing something because I can be hovering over the flight deck of the USS Beast and I still get no lateral. I have even had the impulse engines disabled.

@Kingstevenrules Lateral movement only works in the atmosphere. That might be your problem.

@spefyjerbf I can't get ORBITAS to do lateral movement with the roll, how do I get that to work?

@503rdAirborneSoldier I greatly appreciate how you made your request crystal clear. However, I cannot play SP at the moment, so I will be unable to do your request. You can make a forum post, and someone may do that for you. You can even provide them with an upvote-based incentive, if necessary.

Hey @spefyjerbf, I’ve been working on a recent collaboration project with my friend Pyrus. I need a few parts... Gyroscopes, and Cleavers.

Maybe give a few gyroscopes. 5 of to be exact:

    | 1000 Yaw Power | 360 Range Roll/Pitch | 500 Stability |
    | 2000 Yaw Power | 360 Range Roll/Pitch | 500 Stability |
    | 3000 Yaw Power | 360 Range Roll/Pitch | 500 Stability |
    | 4000 Yaw Power | 360 Range Roll/Pitch | 500 Stability |
    | 5000 Yaw Power | 360 Range Roll/Pitch | 500 Stability |

Also I’ll need 4 sized Cleavers with Speed and Mass:

    MaxSpeeds: All 10000

    Mass: All 0 (Lightest)

Smallest to Largest (Fuselage Size Units):

    .1 x .1 x .1
    .25 x .25 x .25
    .5 x .5 x .5
    .75 x .75 x .75

Thanks, I’m working on a project which will be published today or tomorrow...depending on when I get the parts.
