In order to reach the new generation of 3rd generation fighters, the VEP Platform Modification Project added two new engines that were heavier but had similar power. This caused the fighter to lose some of its mobility, earning it the nickname "Killer Whale" due to its weight and hunting and bombing capacity. Although its most famous role was long-distance interception, it was used extensively until its retirement at the end of the 1980s. Most of its losses were due to accidents and mechanical breakdowns, primarily in the air intakes of the engines, which filled with snow during blizzards despite being protected against it. Apart from that, pilots of the Frostian Liberation Air Force(FLAF) loved the plane for its reliability in combat situations.
