The first turbojet from Amazônia Industries and the first turbojet in Brazil, the BAL-21 Santos Dumont is named in honor of Santos Dumont, the creator of the first airplane in the Southern Hemisphere in 1906. Created to connect Brazil to the entire world with power, elegance and high range, making the BAL-21 had to make few flight stops. The development of the BAL-21 began in 1948 after the end of World War II and made its first flight in 1953 and in 1958 it began operating at Amazônia Air, in total at least 322 units were manufactured, flying mainly in South America, Most of the units remained in Latin America mainly in Brazil but also in Argentina and Chile
