He got critical damage on his left wing while dogfighting an Ki-61 Hien, he beated up the Hien and did an emergency landing on a airfield in Japan captured by US Army, plane didn't got maintendance and it wasn't used until 1946 when it was discovered at an hangar, Japan gave it back to US Army, it was sold in a auction with the price of $70 985, the person who bought it repaired and painted it, he added some modifications to make it faster, the damaged plane became a fast racing plane! It was used in 2003 for a plane race and Old n' Reliable got the 2° position, the plane became famous in a few years, sadly the person who bought it, died in 2006, and it was sold again with a price of $106 755, his new owner added winglets to the plane, he doesn't use it too much but always give maitendance to the plane, and it's always ready for a race!
