The Marauder is an Eastern European twin-engined fighter originally made by the Moscovian Soviet Republic, and which like the others have since been copied or fielded by other factions in the region. This fighter was made under one simple premise: Creating a fighter capable of going toe to toe with foreign fighters while using components that could be manufactured by Soviet industry, as unlike most of the other post-Crumbling Eastern European factions, the Moscovian Soviet Republic has no consistent backers abroad, having been formed by a revolution against what's now the Smolensk Corporation decades before the present that ultimately beget a party dictatorship based on the Soviet Union after repressing the other revolutionary groups.
The Soviet Republic is, in spite of this glaring weakness, a considerable power: Not only does it seek to foster revolts against it's enemies; most importantly of all the Smolensk Corporation from which it split off, but it's inherited the once-capital of Moscow along with much of it's remaining and rebuilt industry. This, coupled with maintaining connection with trade networks out East has allowed the Moscow Soviet Republic to maintain a sizable armor corps, albeit at the cost of other military branches.
While the Marauder's performance is lacking compared to the fighters it's supposed to measure up against, it's relatively cheap engines allow it to remain viable. It's unusual (for a fighter) high wing arrangement enables it to take off from shorter fields and it's high fuel capacity allows Marauders to nevertheless provide effective cover against enemy air assets. However, it's relatively complex landing gear tends to make it a relatively rare aircraft, as the barrier to reliably producing it is higher than usual. This also means that bootlegs exist with fixed landing gears, The plane is also heavily armed, with 4 14.5 mm VHMGs.
