The need for a reliable cargo transport in the '80 leads the way for the government to pass a law that exceptionally set the annual vehicle tax of a truck to be lower than other vehicle per engine volume. The newly published law sent the automotive industries towards the truck segments, including Suryaputra Motors with its L103M Kancil Autodesmo.

This truck uses a naturally aspirated, carburetor induction SPE 2K V8 SOHC gasoline engine with the cubication of 2 liters. Equiped with an automatic transmission system so called KuAT (Kumplity Automated Transmission), which uses a planetary gear and an electric motor to set the gear ratio automatically with the built in sensors.

The L103M was specially built for the coach industry in Indonesia. Suryaputra Motors only manufacture the chassis set without the body, because the government recognize a cabin-less vehicle as a type of "truck". The production of this truck begins from 1983 until 1997 by the SPM manufacturing factory of Semarang and Bekasi.
