The cockpit is on a mounted turret that is controlled by VTOL. If an enemy plane gets within 9 miles, you can swivel the turret and shoot it down. This will reduce the need for escort fighters, as the bombers can effectively defend themselves. A formation of these could easily destroy an entire squadron of enemy planes.
