The CAC/PAC JF-17 Thunder or the FC-1 Xioalong (Fierce Dragon) is a lightweighted, single-engine, multirole fighter aircraft designed and developed jointly by China (Chengdu Aircraft Corporation) and Pakistan (Pakistan Aeronautical Complex). It was designed to replace the PAF's ageing Nanchang A-5C, Chengdu F-7P/PG, and the Mirage III & V combat aircrafts. The JF-17 is also designed to perform multiple roles including to not limited to do intercepting, ground attack, anti-ship, and aerial reconnaissance roles. The Pakistani designation of the "JF-17" stands for the "Joint Fighter-17", the number 17 indicating that the aircraft is the successor of the F-16 in the PAF's vision. The Chinese designation is the "FC-1 Xiaolong" stands for "Fighter China-1 Fierce Dragon".

The aircraft can carry a diverse ordnance of bombs, missiles, and a 23mm GSh-23-2 twin-barrel autocannon. It is powered by a Guizhou WS-13 or Klimov RD-93 afterburning turbofans, and has a top speed of Mach 1.6.

It first flew in 2003, and would be introduced in 2007. The aircraft has seen military action in both air-to-air and air-to-ground missions, including destroying terrorist positions in North Waziristan near the Pak-Afghan border during anti-terrorist operations in 2014 and 2017 by using both guided and unguided munitions. It also shot down an intruding military drone from Iran, and in Operation Swift Retort during the 2019 Jammu and Kashmir airstrikes and aerial skirmish between India and Pakistan.
