The Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) did not purchase the VC-10 mainly due to political and economic factors. In the 1960s, CAAC showed interest in the VC-10 and contacted Vickers. The two parties reached an intent contract for the sale of 10 standard VC-10 aircraft. However, as the British Empire was in the process of disintegration and its national strength was declining at that time, the British government rejected China's procurement intention. In 1971, CAAC once again expressed its willingness to purchase the more advanced Super VC-10, and the British side's attitude improved. But by then, CAAC already had other options. On one hand, the 10 Boeing 707 airliners that China ordered from Boeing in 1972 had begun to be delivered one after another. On the other hand, purchasing the patent for the VC-10 required a large amount of foreign exchange. Meanwhile, the development of the domestic Yun-10 aircraft was in progress, and to ensure that the Yun-10 project was not disrupted, the purchase of the VC-10 was ultimately abandoned.
