Description

Advanced Avionics Demonstrator or the A.A.D is a 4.5+ gen aircraft co-designed by VASA (VortX Aviation Space Association) and VortX Industries. The sole purpose of the AADvantage program is to exploit current 5th generation aircraft mobility at close range, but on a medium airframe (Lvl.2 class airframe.)

Design

The YF-29 Adders design first began on a debate on a light single engine demo, or a twin engine medium demo. Both designs were tested and the twin engine design was adopted and proven to be superior than the single engine. Fuselage is similar in design of the F/A-18 Hornet but with a chin inlet with a centerline splitter for each engine. It also incorporates the DSI inlet for better engine efficiency at supersonic speeds.

Performance

Phase 1 of the YF-29 No-240601 or called Ship one, first flown on August 17, 2024, two months after Ship 1 was built and considered flight worthy. It reached a supercruise of Mach 1.21 and a max speed of Mach 2.24 at high altitudes. Not only it was a speedy aircraft it was also very maneuverable with the fly-by-Wire system specifically built for it. It can achieve a max alpha attack of 40 degrees and 50 degrees of alpha with the fly-by-Wire disabled but proven more unstable and prone to flat spinning. One pilot flight testing the Adder said "it felt like each time you pull the stick hard, you're drifting with ease."

Adder or AADvantage?

Like the F-16 Viper, the YF-29 Adder is named after a snake. The reason with the play on word of Advantage is a slight counter to the Su-75 Checkmate, as it is going to be the 'AADvantage' to Checkmate.
