The Cacalambri, in contrast with the Gruive, is the actual mainline SFR fighter. Just like it's bigger brother, it's a lightweight tandem-wing aircraft designed to maximize climbing rate and maneouverability. It's armed with a 30 mm cannon in the nose, 4 12.7 mm HMGs and 2 20 mm cannon. Aircraft stationed near the border with the CIR and the Mediterranean Coast usually have their motor-cannon removed for the sake of performance, and are sometimes even outfitted with RATO canisters for faster takeoff.
The Cacalambri is a tandem-wing aircraft, designed as a lightweight, cheap fighter capable of operating from poor frontline airstrips to contest air superiority over the battlefield itself. Since then, it has been updated as ever more heavily armed aircraft to go with the increased available power. Practically a STOL fighter, Cacalambris may not be specially fast, but they do possess an enviable climbing capacity and maneouverability, and has made tandem wing aircraft popular in the Sixth French Republic's air force.
