ABOUT= Boeing 717: The Boeing 717 is Boeing's smallest twin engine jet airliner, formerly known as the MD-95 twin engine jet developed by McDonnell Douglas of the United States. On August 1, 1997, after acquiring McDonnell Douglas, Boeing changed the MD-95 designation to the Boeing 717-200 on April 8, 1998, making it a member of the company's civil aircraft family. The Boeing 717 prototype made its maiden flight in 1998, and the production version made its maiden flight in January 1999. In April 1999, it obtained two types of certification from the European and American aviation authorities. The original plan was to deliver it for use in June 1999, but it was later postponed to September 1999. Due to the fact that the Boeing 717 is not a Boeing series aircraft, it has caused inconvenience and increased costs for airlines' maintenance and use, resulting in unsatisfactory market response to the aircraft. Therefore, Boeing announced the cessation of production of the Boeing 717 in January 2005 and officially closed its production line in May 2006. The production quantity of Boeing 717 is 156 aircraft.
