Another Thomas and friends character from the later classic series to the Sharon Miller Era, The gentle giant, Murdoch the Mighty engine, always prefers Peace and tranquility above all values, and he would never hurt or pick on anyone smaller (he is especially fond of children as well). He is incredibly powerful and has been shown to haul even the heaviest of truck loads.
Fun fact: Murdoch is based on a BR Standard 9F, which was built as recently as 1955 to 1960, a time when steam lost mainstream popularity in favor of diesel and electricity. This makes him one of the youngest steam engines on Sodor, if not the youngest.
