Variant: SkyCorps NAF-18K Strike Hornet
Weapons Load-out: Precision-Strike
Introduction:
The SkyCorps NAF-18K Strike Hornet (NAF–Naval Attack Fighter) is a Veridisian licensed-built production of Boeing’s two-seater F/A-18F Super Hornet. It is manufactured solely for the use of the Veridisian Navy.
The Veridisian Navy sought to replace its fleet of F/A-18 fighters, which were quickly aging due to the rapid advances in military technology, with the Super Hornet within 20 years’ time. Even after McDonnell Douglas had merged with Boeing, a licensed-built production by SkyCorps was greenlit. The prototype first flew on December 15, 1999, along with the prototype of the future NDF-18J. It was officially introduced to military service on July 2, 2005.
Sharing strike fighter and electronic warfare capabilities from both the F/A-18 Super Hornet and the EA-6B Prowler, the NAF-18K has an internal 20mm Arch System 1000 rotary cannon, and can carry a variety of missiles, guided munitions, and other weapons and equipment. Supplanting targeting pods, it uses an advanced internal targeting computer, further supported by the Advanced Optical Targeting System (AOTS) that can be seen under the front fuselage.
The NAF-18K saw military action in many parts of the world and in its native Goomba. During the 2011 NATO intervention in Libya, it was seen in combat air patrols alongside NATO aircraft. The aircraft gained notable media attention during the Rohingya genocide in August 2017 following Operation Burmese Vengeance, where the Veridisian Navy bombed many of the Tatmadaw’s military facilities with the aircraft. In one incident, an NAF-18K took down two MiG-29s from the Myanmar Air Force.
