The C-6 Falcão is a medium-sized air superiority fighter developed by IPA in the 1960s to replace the C-4, becoming Portugal’s main air superiority aircraft. The fighter is powered by two turbojet engines with afterburners, offering excellent speed and maneuverability. The cockpit features a CRT radar and advanced instruments for the time, while its armament consists of four heat-seeking missiles, with the capability to carry external fuel tanks for extended range.
The C-6 entered service in 1964, primarily with the 201 Falcões Squadron, serving in air superiority roles. Several units were also exported to Spain, Brazil, and the United Kingdom, strengthening the world’s oldest military alliance and establishing Portugal as an exporter of reliable and effective fighters.
The Falcão remained in service until the 2000s, gradually being replaced by the C-8 Relâmpago, allowing for a smooth transition while maintaining its reputation as a fast, reliable, and essential aircraft for Portuguese air defense.
Hope you enjoy this one :)
