Variable Incidence Wing STOL test

This plane was built to test the functionality of a variable incidence wing system I built, and to determine the STOL capability of an aircraft equipped with such a wing.

The wing features both working flaps, and a variable incidence control system that adjusts the angle of attack of the entire wing.

VTOL down for flaps. AG-1 and VTOL down for flaps and wing angle.

The colors are very plain on this aircraft simply because it's a test plane. All the control surfaces have been painted brightly in different colors to indicate each individual control surface.

    @DeezDucks Well, the front rotators handled the variable incidence, and the rear handled the flaps. They are both attached to the same rig.

    @DeezDucks There are two sets of rotators. The front set are set to 15 degrees at 20% speed, and the rear set are 30 degrees at 30% speed.

    I have a similar system on my project. Happen to know what the degree the rotators is on? 15 is too much and I need slightly smaller.

    Wow this is a really great experiment. Very usefull by landing and lift off. I landed it with the whole wings down (vtol down) with a speed of 74mph. Nice job

    As to the control issue at low speeds, it's really difficult to get control surfaces to work at low speeds in SP. That has to do with the game's physics model and not really the aerodynamic design of my plane. I've built plenty of other STOL type aircraft that perform well as low as 40mph, but they have to weigh almost nothing to accomplish that. The use of a variable incidence wing on this aircraft is only to get it off of the ground quickly. When landing, if you use the variable incidence at all, should only be a small amount.

    Below 50 u lose all role control. This limits STOL design, you Gota find better roll control at low speeds of u want to land at 50-40. Btw that is a variable angle of attack, incidence is the diahedral

    @JacobHardy64 I've found that full incidence is only useful for take-off. Once off the ground the flaps need to be immediately raised to keep the plane from nosing up out of control. It definitely gets the plane in the air quickly, though. When landing I usually only pull the slider down about half a tick just to make the plane a little loftier on approach.

    I've made several aircraft like this, and they have the same effect: flaps reduce speed by _< 25 mph, while the wing is at such an angle that the aircraft tipstalls at any degree bank. There is no washout, so flaps are most effective.
