The F-35 Lightning II was envisioned as the quintessential multirole strike fighter of NATO and US-allied air power, integrating stealth, an advanced avionics suite, and enhanced situational awareness through sensor fusion. Although it has a disadvantage in kinematic performance compared to the F-22, the F-35 possesses strong subsonic acceleration and high alpha capabilities. However, the F-35 has also become infamous for its excessive costs and delivery delays, partially due to its concurrent development and production strategy. The F-35 was designed with three variants, A, B, and C, with the F-35A being the CTOL variant designed for the USAF and other air forces.

Author’s Notes

• Controls included in craft instructions.
• Takeoff speeds are roughly the same loaded or not.
• The weapon bay automatically opens when an internal weapon is selected and a target is selected. If you want to keep it closed, turning the master arm off will close the bays.
• Capable of performing the Herbst maneuver. Pitch up to 40 degrees and cut throttle. Once you slow to 300 km/h, activate reduced stability mode and immediately pitch up and yaw left or right. As you turn, counter with opposite roll and throttle up to military power.
• Fuel load affects performance quite significantly since the F-35 has such a large fuel load. There is a fuel block hidden inside the fuselage in line with the landing gear and you can edit the XML to change the fuel load for higher performance.
• The weapon bay works off weapon names, so if you switch up the loadouts or add your own, keep in mind you'll need to edit the weapon bay variables.
