Main description

The Jagdpanzer VI (P) which is otherwise known as the "Jagdfalke", was a German heavy tank destroyer designed by Porsche, with a casemate housing a 12.8cm cannon alongside a bow MG34 for anti-infnatry purposes. The chassis was slightly extended to accommodate the casemate, and was placed in a "stug" configuration. After losing to the Henschel on design competition for the Tiger 1, Ferdinand Porsche would instead use his hulls to repurpose them as heavy tank destroyers, such as the Ferdinand/Elefant and the Jagdfalke. After refitting multiple VK.45.01 hulls for testing, it was found out that the Jagdfalke would suffer mechanical problems and reliability issues, due to the weight of the gun and the large size of the casemate, combined with the engine fires. This would lead to cancelation of the Jagdfalke in favor of more Ferdinand/Elefants, however two units ended up as a command unit for these heavy tank destroyers, but were later destroyed or captured. "073" would end up being knocked out in D-Day after destroying multiple sherman tanks, by a flanking Sherman Firefly, and "074" would end up being captured after its crew abandoned it due to a mechanical breakdown. "074" is now displayed at a tank museum, and can be visited.
