Heinkel invited the German high command to see testing of the new aircraft (assumed to be somewhere near Peenemunde, no one knows for sure). Anyways, the test went alright, one interior engine was lost, but was soon worked out later on. The aircraft had a huge carry weight capacity, being able to carry about 30 troops in each capsule, or 1000s of pounds of supplies. It started production in February of 1944, and throughout the war only 97 on record were made. More than 3/4 of them crashed or were shot down due to the engine only being in one place, making it an easy target, especially for heavy fighters. Not a single 301 remains today, only a few pictures from action on the western European front in WW2. This is the model that carried high officials of Nazi Germany, idnetifyable by the golden swastikas. See that door on the side?
