The Bofors 40mm anti-aircraft gun (also known as the 40 Fast Gun, the 40 Machine Gun or the Bofors Gun) is a Swedish anti-aircraft gun designed by Bofors, and has been one of the main medium-caliber ground-based anti-aircraft weapons since World War II. Both the Allied and Axis Powers have directly procured or technically transferred the gun, and have even captured it for use. After the end of World War II, it continued to be improved and became synonymous with medium-caliber anti-aircraft guns. Due to the large number of twin and quad versions, including unauthorized copies, total production of the L/60 exceeded 60,000 guns and 120,000 barrels.
