T-2B RATS (Rocket Artillery Tank System)
By IMCI – Indonesian Military and Civil Industry
The T-2B RATS is a self-propelled rocket artillery vehicle based on the proven chassis of the T-2A Warden. RATS stands for Rocket Artillery Tank System, a name that reflects its role as a mobile fire-support unit capable of delivering devastating indirect fire from a compact and armored platform.
Designed and manufactured by IMCI, the T-2B is a direct response to the need for highly mobile, low-profile artillery systems that can rapidly reposition between strikes. Unlike traditional towed rocket systems or heavy MLRS platforms, the RATS combines mobility, speed, and simplicity—all within a familiar and reliable vehicle platform.
This vehicle trades the troop-carrying capacity of the T-2A for a twin-pod 105mm rocket launcher mounted at the rear. The launcher is fully traverse-capable with elevation control, allowing for manual targeting of indirect fire arcs. Each pod carries a standard loadout of unguided, high-explosive rockets suitable for saturation fire or suppression missions.
To maintain accuracy and stability during firing, the T-2B deploys rear stabilizer arms before launch. These arms help anchor the vehicle and reduce stress on the chassis during salvos. Once firing is complete, the crew can retract the stabilizers and relocate within seconds, making the RATS ideal for “shoot-and-scoot” artillery tactics.
Crewed by 2 or 3 personnel (driver, gunner, and optional commander), the T-2B retains IMCI’s straightforward control layout and ergonomic design. Its maximum speed is 50 kilometers per hour (approximately 31 mph), allowing it to keep pace with mechanized formations and relocate quickly under fire.
Built using over 70% of the same components as the T-2A, the RATS benefits from high parts compatibility, easier maintenance, and simplified logistics. Whether deployed as a single unit for rapid-response fire support, or as part of a swarm of mobile artillery platforms, the T-2B RATS delivers devastating effect with minimal footprint.
Lightly armored, but highly lethal, the RATS is best used in coordinated battlefield roles: saturating enemy strongpoints, denying routes, or providing cover for infantry movements. It is not intended for frontline direct combat, but for high-mobility indirect fire operations, supported by recon assets and command coordination.
The T-2B RATS marks IMCI’s continued expansion into modular battlefield vehicles, combining practicality and lethality in a package small enough to be mass-produced, yet powerful enough to shape the battlefield.
