APB-12 'Komodo'

APB-12 or Komodo, is an APC vehicle produced by us, BlackGearCompany. Komodo is designed as a modular vehicle, which can be modified, fitted, and added to according to its needs.

First designed in 1987 and completed by the end of 1990, Komodo is designed as a heavy-class AFV, capable of accommodating dozens of personnel inside. Its defense is designed according to STANAG 4569 Level 4 standards against 14.5x114mmR caliber bullets. The armor is made of steel as the inner layer, and special composite armor for the outer layer.

The frontal armor layer has a thickness of 100mm, with a 50mm steel inner layer and a 50mm composite outer layer, with certain angled inclinations. The side of right, left, and rear armor layers are in total 45mm, having a 20mm steel inner layer and a 25mm composite outer layer (+Addition of Extension armor, adding 25-40mm of composite armor). The roof is made of 35mm thick steel.

Additional protection can be added in the form of extension armor or modular armor, that made of a special composite material alloy that is stronger in resisting kinetic bullets. Extension pack or Modular Pack can be increasing it's protection level roughly up to Level 6 if it's possible.

Furthermore, the Komodo has excellent maneuverability for various challenging terrains. Although it only uses commonly used suspensions and may be more ordinary or weaker, its suspension is quite smooth under certain conditions. With a V8 diesel engine, the Komodo can accelerate quickly and reach speeds of up to 97 km/h on asphalt, 95 km/h on the dirt or non-asphalt ground in a matter of seconds. With an operational range of 770 km on a single tank of fuel.

Lore

This model is a local model that will only be used by Indonesia for a certain period. Entering production in 2000 with an ordered quantity of 42 units, request from Indonesian Defense of Ministry. And first appeared at the Indonesian Independence Day parade in 2001. The reason Indonesia ordered this APC from BlackGearCompany was due to internal conflicts that occurred at that time and the promises that given by us to them, regarding with the performance of this vehicle. While a few separatist groups attacked the sovereignty of Indonesia, so the Indonesian government took decisive action.

One of these separatist groups is GAM (Gerakan Aceh Merdeka). Somehow, they were able to obtain more powerful weapons, such as RPG-7, mortars, and others. It is suspected that certain separatists or terrorist groups from the Middle East supplied them. So, Indonesia immediately took decisive action by deploying its units, and its personnel. There are just only a few documentations if this vehicle is deployed to there, but there is a record of this vehicle on that operations.

In 2010, these vehicles were imported to foreign countries in several units. It was rumored that these vehicles were seen in Somalia and other African countries, but since there is no documentation or evidence from such news, the news remains just rumors.
