Messerschmitt P.1085 / Me 264

The Me-264 wasn’t just supposed to be the “Amerika Bomber”; the German navy had plans to use it in a long-range maritime patrol/anti-shipping role.

At the beginning of 1944 Messerschmitt had drawn up an improved version of the Me-264 (tagged P.1085), with a swept-wing design propelled by four piston engines in a pusher configuration plus two turbojets in the wing roots. The project was never realised for lack of production capacity and materials, and was finally cancelled by the end of 1944.

So… this build is a great “what if”. The P.1085 would most probably have been equipped with search radar, and the capability to launch and control Hs-293 guided anti-ship missiles. In the end I also decided to add a Bk7.5 cannon; don’t know if the Germans would have done anything of the sort, but I got the idea from the Saab T18B. It worked fine in Sweden, so why not…

• AG1 jettisons the additional tandem wheels
• AG2 allows control of gun turrets & cannon with the VTOL and trim sliders
• AG3 flaps
• AG4 assigns the trim slider to the pitch trim tabs
• AG5 (not used)
• AG6 navigation lights
• AG7 drops the Hs-293’s without firing them
• AG8 toggle engine smoke effect on/off

Just a few pointers;

• The plane was foreseen to have jettisonable tandem wheels for “ heavy” takeoff. So before retracting the gear, hit AG1 to drop those.

• Hit AG4 before you trim the plane, but don’t forget to deactive it again once you have the trim tabs in the desired position. If AG4 is left activated, the plane will be all over the place when you use the trim slider to control the guns & cannon…

• Get up to a decent speed (200 or so) for takeoff… this is not a light plane.

Have fun hitting ships! Works fine against ground targets too, of course…

    I challenge you to make a "B-36 Peacemaker" layout of this, meaning there is 3 engines with the four turbofan engines hanging at the tips of the wings, along with a very good bomb payload. Just a thought, I thought it would be interesting to see.

    trim sliders need a little more power but this is amazing and I love German blueprint builds.

    A truly spectacular build. I love the smoothness, realistic performance, functionality, weaponry. It flies realistically, takes off realistically...I haven't yet tried to land because I was blasted out of the sky before I could make it back to friendly territory, but this is really good, congrats on the Feature!
