From wikipedia.

The Mil Mi-17 (NATO reporting name: Hip) is a Soviet-designed Russian military helicopter family introduced in 1975 (Mi-8M), continuing in production as of 2024 at two factories in Russia, in Kazan and Ulan-Ude. It is known as the Mi-8M series in Russian service. The helicopter is mostly used as a medium twin-turbine transport helicopter, as well as an armed gunship version.

you can read more about it here…

Instructions

(pls read)

This heli can be used as an attack or transport helicopter… as long as you know how to operate it.

operation

Open the throttle to 100 percent, and then SLOWLY move the vtol slider up until you start hovering. I recommend keeping the slider at around halfway to the first bar to keep at a steady hover. There is a weird tendency that it has which is to fly to the left a tiny bit. I’ve tried everything but it doesn’t stop doing it. Just not that a bit of rolling to the left may be necessary. Also, If you are actually reading this please tell me in the comments because I feel like no one does. You can also of course open the cargo ramp by activating group 1, and then even try to load cargo into it. One final thing, the landing gear don’t retract just fyi.

Weapons

This is the gunship variant of the heli, and it has 56 unguided rockets to help any troops or tanks it airlifts to the battlefield. It also has a hell lot of flares to deal with those pesky missiles.

(just a historical note these were never used in vietnam, but the mil 8 was and these were produced in the same time period so close enough.)

That’s all… Go blow stuff up!!!!

@BOSSentinel my point is that it isn't fictional and is from the same time period, so it should count

@MetallicBeef6572 ah. But still, this wouldn’t have been in N. Vietnam’s hands.

@BOSSentinel Nooo it isn't actually, N. and S. Vietnam were officially "unified" in 1976, thus ending the war between the two.

@BOSSentinel Well erm technically🤓☝, the Mi-17 first flew in 1975, the same year the US withdrew from vietnam. However, the war between N. and S. Vietnam continued until the following year, the Mi-17 did exist in that brief timeframe sooooo... I guess it counts? Its up to @StopBreathingMyAir tho whether this passes or not
