In 1965, Shirohana Aeronautics acquired a licence from McDonnell Douglas.

It was a licence to modify and produce the F-4 Phantom to suit the needs of the Homeland Airspace Defense Force.

As the 7th Domestically Produced fighter aircraft, it was given the designation "F-7".

This particular F-7 is the 1968 "E" Variant. It sports a better radar, more powerful engines, and improved avionics. The "(G)" designation stands for "Ground" and is only intended to be operated out of Airbases as it lacks an arresting hook.

The fighter is configured in the "Heightened Patrol Armament" with 4 Hoshi-II Kai BVR Missiles and 2 Yari-I Kai Missiles for Dogfighting. It is also armed with 2 J25 Guided Bombs as a measure against small naval vessels.

In this configuration, a flight of 2 F-7Es are expected to intercept enemy bombers or corvettes that have been more and more frequently intruding the nation's territory.

This particular aircraft is YS-126 of the "North Star" squadron responsible for guarding the Northern Airspace.
