Grumman F9F-3 "Panther"/Emerson AERO X-17A

This aircraft was simply a Grumman F9F Panther with a redesigned nose to house the Emerson AERO X-17A, it was specially designed radar aimed turret that was built for downing bombers, instead of running a convetnional attack run from behind where you could be shot at by the bombers defensive gunners, the AERO X-17A could traverse 360 degrees around the aircraft and the guns could aim almost 90 degrees upwards, the idea was basically to indirectly fire at a bomber while flying on an entirely different course, this was safer for pilot and aircraft as it put them out of the way of the bombers guns, unfourtanetly the turret and it's control systems were too heavy and impractical for a single-seat fighter, while missles and to a lesser extent rockets were proved as a better solution (VTOL to traverse the turret trim to aim the guns)
